Generations of great pumpkins and thousands of memories have grown in Pumpkinville, and families from all over are getting excited to return to the oldest original pumpkin farm in New York State for yet another year.
“We’ve visited Pumpkinville at least once a year for the past nine years,” said Lisa Haglund of Bemus Point, NY who, with her husband, is already planning this year’s trip with their three children, ages 10, 7 and 5. “We love the little stores there. The kids like to ride on the cow train and pick their very own pumpkins and do the corn shoot.”
With thousands of pumpkins scattered throughout the seven-acre patch, it might take a while to pick the perfect one, so plan to make a day of it so that you can enjoy all the family-friendly activities.
Marcie Peterson Rust of Great Valley, NY says that along with picking out pumpkins, her family also enjoys watching the donuts being made at Pumpkinville’s Antique Cider Mill. “We absolutely love the donuts,” she said. “My favorite memories are of watching my children pick out their own pumpkins and then devouring their donuts.” Marcie also looks forward to all the photo opportunities that make Pumpkinville so special. “I like to take pictures of our kids amongst the pumpkins and at the ‘How Tall This Fall’ pumpkin.”
Nicole Layton of Olean, NY agreed. “Every year we take the kids’ photos on the growth chart. It’s a tradition. I look forward to seeing the kids’ reactions each year and seeing how much they’ve grown on the chart.”
Two to three times a year, Layton takes her three children, ages 2, 6 and 11, to Pumpkinville so they can enjoy activities like the farm animals and mining station, and so they can taste the homemade ice cream. “It’s something people might not know about Pumpkinville unless they visit,” she said of the ice cream.”
Bring an appetite to Pumpkinville, because in addition to donuts, cider and homemade ice cream, visitors can enjoy chicken barbeque (on weekends), caramel apples and maple products from Moore’s Maple Shack. Pumpkinville also features field trips, group outings, fudge fundraising and a few fun festivals that are sure to please crowds of all ages, such as the Fall Festival Weekend and Pink Pumpkin Festival Weekend.
